The Winners are.....

Well our group of judges obviously had quite the sense of humor as the winner is unanimous as Baby Mao pooing in the daffodils!  They felt his natural attention to the needs of Spring just announced such a feeling of the winter moving into the growth of Spring.  Baby Mao wins the Millie Bed!  He will probably never see it however as I have a sneaking suspicion that Yao-lin may claim it as his own winnings.

For our second place winner the judges were a little more divided but felt that the sweetness and simplicity of Doorydoo's entry was just too lovely not to recognize.  The sunbeam and the lovely poem made the judges feel the sun on her furs.  Doorydoo wins a handmade purr pad from Siamese Rescue which she can hopefully enjoy many future Spring sunbeams upon.

And third place the judges took a lot of consideration into the weather this year.  One of our judges lives in the far north of Maine and all of them are just sick and tired of winter.  They want bright happy things just like Derby's entry provided.  Derby wins a prize pack of goodies from Siamese Rescue!

Meowmy decided she wanted to give an award to one of her favorite entries so we award a special runner up place to MoMo since her entry was just so philosophical, beautiful, and expressive.  (MoMo if you contact Meowmy she wants to get you a little something special).

Queen Snickers chose the winners for her special handmade nip toys in honor of her two sons born in the Spring.  The ginger winner is Jimmy Joe
and the tuxie winner is Samantha.

Of course the judges felt that every entry was wonderful and had a really really hard time choosing the top 3.  They really wanted to award special awards to the rest of the Top 11.

Most viewer votes (and good choice in food) Daisy!
Best use of lyrics and photography together is Lucy from Artsy Catsy!
Most handsome and obviously selfless entry would be Yao-lin.
Most energetic entry is Tripper.
Most creative way to interpret the coming of Spring- Mao.
Most likely to get the best Easter Basket (besides Fiona and Lando who got SERIOUS awws from the juges) is Skeezix.
Best use of Song andSunbeam is Rocky from Artsy-Catsy.

Again thank you to ALL of the entries, voters, supporters, and just those who enjoyed this fun with us.  Spring is so much closer now so hopefully we can all continue to enjoy the joy of the season.  And thanks to Sammy, Miles, and Bill for being our inspiration for the contest.
We're totally going to work on some badges for everyone but we didn't want to keep anyone in more suspense.  Will the top three please e-mail us simplysiameseATgmailDOTcom with your info so we can send you your prizes directly from Siamese Rescue?

The Top Ten!

Here are the results of our popular vote. These are the top 11 cats who received the most votes. I was very excited that nearly every entry had at least one vote. You all did such a fabulous job with your entries.

Here is a rough list of the tip 11 in NO particular order which will now be sent off to our panel of impartial judges. Winners will be announced tonight!

Remember the Meezers are the real winners here as we were able to raise $118 donated by my Meowmy and Skeezix/Mao/Rocky/Tripper's FL who donated $40 to the cause! That's a total of $158 all while we had fun celebrating Spring.

Time to Vote!

Please Keep Voting!!!
(We reserve the right to delete comments at anytime to keep this a bit more interesting ;)- Thanks for the idea Karl from the Cat Realm!)

Wow, what a great turnout we've had. We had a total of 68 entries! We want to thank everyone for entered, we hope you enjoyed this contest, I know we did. I'm actually pretty sure it brought my Meowmy out of the winter blahs which is a good thing.

So all of the prize money (totaling $118 goes right to the Meezers (and Bill)! We are so proud of the turnout from everyone, we never dreamed it would get this high!

But....3 lucky entries are also going to get prize packages from Siamese Rescue Center!

First prize will be a Millie Bed! (if you already have one, something else can be arranged if you prefer)

Second prize is a purr pad! (I don't think you can ever have too many of those)

Third prize is a prize pack of nifty toys and maybe some nip.

Bonus Prizes: Queen Snickers would like to sponsor best Ginger and Tuxie in honor of her two Spring born sons. The winners will be judged by Queen Snickers and her mom and each receive a handmade nip toy!

Here's how voting will work. Every blogging cat/woofie/bun in a household is entitled to one vote. You can not vote for yourself or your immediate family members. Place your vote in the comments section of THIS POST in the following format so that my poor Meowmy (who has to work late every day this week) can easily figure stuff out:
Latte votes for "Skeezy's Spring" (Your name and the TITLE of the post not just the name of the cat/woofie/bun)

You will have until March 8th (Saturday Night) to cast your votes. After the close of voting we will have a panel of 3 human judges pick winners from the top 10 viewers votes (none of the judges are affiliated with Cat Blogging so this should be interesting!). Winners will be announced on the evening of March 9th (anywhere from 5pm-11:59pm).

Mao's Poem: Spring Suks

SPRING SUKS
by Maobert Nichols

Spring suks cuz I'm grownded forever.
Spring suks cuz I go owtside never
Unless I go on a stoopid strole
Wich suks cuz the stroler smells like Rocky's poophole.
And I have to share it with Skeezix the rat
Who insists on the frunt seet not the bak
and I'm the topcat so I shood git to pik.
Jeez, Skeeze is as irritayting to me as a tik.
So win Spring gits sprung I git reel krabby
Cuz I wunt to go owtside. Maybey I shood rite deer abbey.
A mancat needs to rome and to servay his domain
But I can't cuz I'm on Prozak and boy is that a pain.
I sleep a millyun howrs owt of evry singul day
Win I shood be owtside soaking up evry last sun ray.
So that's why Spring suks. And that's why my life it suks as well,
Can yoo see I'm waring my kranky pants? Yeah, I knew yoo cood tell.
Spring suks.

THE END.

Queen Snickers' Search For Spring

Outside at last, I search for signs that spring is coming.
The grass under my paws is still brown and crunching.

Wildflowers are growing this must be a sign.
Spring will you be here on time?

A cool wind blows and ruffles my furs.
I can’t wait for lush grass to curl in and purr!

This cute little Henbit sure smells sweet.
But I don’t think I’ll eat it as an afternoon treat!

Spring I am waiting and watching for you!
Come quickly and make my world anew!

Skeezy's Spring

The best part of Spring is that it is the start of Strolling Seezin, and me and my big bruther Mao git to go strolling almost evry day. Mao has finely gottin the hang of SHARING the frunt seet, so it promisses to be a good strolling seezin.

Spring also meens SPRING FASHUNS and that meens SHOPPING!!!!! So I pull owt my kyoot pink purse with the spangles and I look inside for my VISA card, and I go shopping on the innernets for kyoot clothes!!!!!

And then thare's Easter. I'm hoping I'll spot the Easter bunny this yeer. Maybe Fiona will put in a good werd for me. The best part abowt Easter is that I git to watch my faverite Easter moovey, Easter Parade with JUDY GARLUND!!!! And yoo all know how much I love Judy Garlund and a good moovey with lots of show toons!

Somewhere My Love ...

Somewhere My Love, there is a sign of Spring
Although the snow, covers most everything

The calendar on the wall, says it's March, we know
But the grass is still covered, in several feet of snow

Somewhere My Love, there are birds that sing
All we've got now, is indoor birdies on a string

For now, we will play in the snow
Cause there's no sign of Spring, in Northeast O-hi-o!

Someday, we'll see the sun again, we hope
Someday, whenever the Spring breaks through!!

Farmer Beezer's Spring Report

Hi there fellow Farmers!
Beezer here with the Spring Has Sprung report.
Whether you are a big time farmer with a whole garden or just have a windowsill in an apartment, like me, its time to start thinkin' about the cat grass plantin' season.

This season I tried somthin' new. I had mine mombean go to the health food store to get my seeds. Here is what she got:
Its called 'Organic Sprouting, Hard Red Wheat Berries'.
What that means is its all natural, nothing added, and ready to grow.
Now there are 2 kinds of Red Wheat, hard and soft; tell ya the truth I don't know what the difference is, but the hard kind is workin' great for me. Oh, and 'Berries' is just fancy way to say 'seed'. Just have your bean go in to the health food store and ask for 'wheat grass seeds', make sure ya tell 'em its fur growin' yer own, and I'm sure they can help you out.
Best of all it only costs 59 cents a pound! Heck, a little envelope package at the garden store, only enough for 1 plantin' was over 2 bucks! This is a real bargain. We got enough for 4 or 5 or even 6 plantin's for less than 25 cents. I'm sure that you can find that in the sofa cushions.

Here is what it looked like a week after plantin':
Startin' to come up nice huh?

A few days later it looked like this:
Ready for a test nibble I'd say.
Mmmmm, Mmm, Mmmm! Nothin' beats the taste of home grown green goodness.

So, give it a try you'll be glad ya did!

Spring Cleaning with Flowers

Stems are for flossing
Your teeth 'till they’re glossy.

The humans will blink
And quick as a wink
We will eat you.

Unrequited Love

This spring as it comes bursts up in bonfires green,
Wild puffing of emerald trees, and flame-filled bushes,
Thorn-blossom lifting in wreaths of smoke between
Where the wood fumes up and the watery, flickering rushes.

I am amazed at this spring, this conflagration
Of green fires lit on the soil of the earth, this blaze
Of growing, and sparks that puff in wild gyration,
Faces of people streaming across my gaze.

And I, what fountain of fire am I among
This leaping combustion of spring? My spirit is tossed
About like a shadow buffeted in the throng
Of flames, a shadow that’s gone astray, and is lost.

The Light and Lightness of Spring

A light exists in spring
Not present on the year
At any other period.
When March is scarcely here

A color stands abroad
On solitary hills
That silence cannot overtake,
But human nature feels.

It waits upon the lawn;
It shows the furthest tree
Upon the furthest slope we know;
It almost speaks to me.

Then, as horizons step,
Or noons report away,
Without the formula of sound,
It passes, and we stay:

A quality of loss
Affecting our content,
As trade had suddenly encroached
Upon a sacrament.

Luf, Us
Lucy in the Breeze in Springtime
by Lucy
(Inspired by The Beatles)
I picture myself in the breeze in the springtime
With flowers and sunshine and soft gentle purrs
If somebody calls me I’ll just ignore them
I’m a girlcat with the breeze in my furs.

Beautiful colors of pink and nip green
Are filling my pretty head
I’m just a ragdoll with the breeze in my furs
And I purr …

Lucy in the breeze in springtime
Lucy in the breeze in springtime
Lucy in the breeze in springtime
Purrr ... purrrr ......

Follow me down to a patch of wildflowers
Where catnip and grasses do hide
We’ll nibble and munch on the kitty hors d’oeuvres
And get so incredibly high.

Fevvers and chipmunks arrive in the yard
So we can chase them away
We'll climb in the trees with our heads in the clouds
And we'll purr ...

Lucy in the breeze in springtime
Lucy in the breeze in springtime
Lucy in the breeze in springtime
Purrr ... purrrr .........

I Feel the Sun
by Rocky
(inspired by The Beatles)

Everykitty ... it's been a long cold lonely winter
Everykitty ... it's been nine lives since it's been here
I feel the sun, I feel the sun
And it feels so nice!

Everykitty ... smiles are returning to our faces
Everykitty ... it's been nine lives since it's been here
I feel the sun, I feel the sun
And it feels so nice!

Sun, sun, sun, stretch in the sun!
Sun, sun, sun, bask in the sun!
Sun, sun, sun, laze in the sun!
Sun, sun, sun, lounge in the sun!
Sun, sun, sun, purr in the sun!

Everykitty ... I feel the ice is finally melting
Everykitty ... it's been nine lives since it's been clear
I feel the sun, I feel the sun
And it feels so nice!

Roll in the sun, wallow in the sun, drool in the sun
It feels so nice, it feels so nice!

Spring with Tybalt

The Easter Time is the Egg Time
And the Egg Time is the Easter Time

~Sung to me by mommy, as sung to her by Grandmama~

I had to think a lot about what spring means to me. Spring is exciting for a lot of reasons. With Spring comes my birthday (I'll be two!), baby bunnies, frisky squirrels, more birdies, lots of kittens, blossoming flowers, and Easter. I decided that fluffyhead easter bunnies were the way to go, so here I am celebrating bunny love!

ODE TO SPRING

by Tybalt

Oh, Spring!

You bring so much joy to my heart,

I wish that we never more would part.

Open windows bring warm breezes and sunshine,

blowing gently through my furs and brightening up my mind.

Timmy the Squirrel comes to visit me more

and taunts me through my opened front door.

Birdies sing and chatter and fly by

and the sight makes me so happy that I sit and sigh.

Oh, Spring!

Please come and make me happy again!
I have missed you so, my warm and sunny friend.

And let us not forget the best part of floofyhead bunny pals . . . the bunnykicking!

Happy Spring, Everykitty!

Faith Boomerang in the Sun

Like all of our new kittens, this is little Faith Boomerang's first spring.
Although the temperatures here on the Texas Gulf Coast are in the 80's, we can still tell Spring is on its way. Here, Faith rests in the sunlight filtering in through the clawmarks in the curtains.

Spring Sun - The Cats Stephens

Our favotie thing about Spring is the blinds open up, sometimes the windows too, and we get to bask in the warm sun. We wrote a poem about it together...

We can't deny that spring has sprung,
As we bask all day in the bright, sun,
And those days they stretch deeper into spring,
We must worship, while the wild birds sing.

Diamond dreams of exploring spring

Cat,Diamond,outside

(with appologies to Pet Clark)

Winter was cold, but the snow is all gone now
And it is time to go
Outside

Maybe you know a clever place you can hide
Where you'll never show,
Outside

Listen to the birdies singing songs up in the trees now,
Chase the squirrels, check out the blooms
and explore all of the scenery. It's time to escape...
You can forget all the humans; forget their affairs, and go
Outside -- Flowers are blooming there
Outside -- The skies are much bluer there
Outside -- Springtime is waiting for you

Chase the bugs, attack the grass and roll round in clover
You'll be basking in the sun before day is over
Happy again...

The grass is much greener there,
You can forget all the humans; forget their affairs, and go
Outside -- Flowers are blooming there
Outside -- The skies are much bluer there
Outside -- Springtime is waiting for you

Since I am just a kitten, as was born on September 2nd, 2007, I have never experienced Spring! Dragonheart tells me that it is a wonderful time of year, with warm weather, flowers blooming, lots of birdies, and plenty of sun. I can't wait to experience my very first spring, since I love the sun and I love warmth!

Spring Is Coming

The sun was warm but the wind was chill.
You know how it is with an April day
When the sun is out and the wind is still,
You're one month on in the middle of May.
But if you so much as dare to speak,
A cloud comes over the sunlit arch,
A wind comes off a frozen peak,
And you're two months back in the middle of March.

Robert Frost (1874–1963) Two Tramps in Mud Time (1936)

What Springs Means to Me

Sitting out in the yard, enjoying the late winter sunshine, it was beginning to feel like spring! It made me consider what spring means to me. It means...

Taking a sip out of the bird bath

Using a real wooden fence as a scratching post!

The first whiff of the first daffodil!

Enjoying it all with your family!

A time of rebirth
A time of renewal
A time of tolerance towards the younger ones!

It's a Magical Spring Thing

Spring is a Magical Thing here in the Deep South, GA.
We start out with Tiny Baby Squirrels in their Hidey Hole in one of our Pecan Trees. Our trees are bare after dropping their leaves and Pecans in the fall. They look sparse and gray and sleepy.
And then, the squirrels grow into Evil Squirrels and teeny tiny shoots of green appear on the trees.... Bigify and look closely. Can you see the leaves sprouting? Then before we know it, we have this!
Spring is a Magical Thing!

Latte's ode to Spring

***Not eligible for prizes***

Blue Daffodil

By: Latte's Meowmy April, 2006

A sweet little bud of a flower
Poked its head above the frosty ground
One sunny crisp winter morning.

A golden bud wrapped in a
Protective embrace of fresh leaves
And a sturdy stem.

Stay close to the ground little flower.
Keep nestled in the toasty
leaves of last fall,
Let the Spring come to you.

Wait little flower!
Do not unfurl your petals
Into the biting cold and frosty air,
It is not yet time for your glory!

You must wait a while yet,
Let the crocuses and tulips
Make their first appearances,
Stay protected in your warm embraces.

A tiny little bunny hopes along
And comes upon your restful bed.
Hungry little bunny takes a nibble
Of your sweet young leaves leaving
You injured and in pain.

I will fix you little flower for I know
You are special.
Here I am with steaks and burlap,
I shall save you from hungry little bunnies,
and the cruel winter frosts.

I will check on you every hour,
I will water you every day,
I will prop up your glorious head
Until you are ready to unfurl your glory.

I will do this everyday forever.
I will tend to your needs,
I will grow you some friends,
I will keep you sheltered and happy.

One day I awoke to a beautiful
Spring morning with birds chirping
And a gentle warm breeze.
Racing outside to tend to you I
Found you in a special state of joy.

Instead of my sickly little bud
A glorious flower stood in its place.
With blue petals to match the brilliant sky
And a white center the color of
The happy clouds
You stood there beaming at me.

Thank you little flower.
Thank you for giving me the gift
Of unconditional love.

Thank you little flower.
Thank you for teaching me
To never give up hope and to
Persevere when others falter.

You and I will always
Have our early spring.
When you wake up again next year
You’ll know to wait until the ground is soft.
You’ll know that when you do return,
I will tend to you for all the springs to come.

Dreaming of Spring - By Sabrina

Just laying here napping and having sweet dreams ...
maybe Spring isn't as far away as it seems!

Spring has Sun - by Powder

I love our deck, I love the sun,
Spring is full of lots of fun!
If only Winter would go away,
I'd be back out there to greet the day!

Oh Days of Springtimes Past - By Puff and Rudy

We sat upon our porch and basked
Yes we were supervised, nice of you to ask!
We loved the sun, we smelled the breeze,
So take us back there, please, please please!

Perfectly Parker Remembering Springtime

I know this much...Spring smells good!
I love the sky, I love the air, I love the flowers everywhere,
I miss the warm sun on my furs,
If I could have it, I would purrs!
Ha-Ha-Ha-Ha!
Poetry isn't my strong suit!

Spring... comes in a bouquet

Isn't she pretty? This was the siamese who came before.
My pretty Persia.
I'm in the middle.
Trixie is on the right.
Spring... is sweet with a siamese in the house.

Philosophy in Spring

The Chinese sages advised that one should make one's yearly plan in Spring and the day's plan in the morning. I say let the lesser humans worry about planning, we infinitely wiser cats know just to relax and enjoy the beauty of Spring as Nature intends us to.

Djenna's First Spring

This photo of Djenna was taken on March 11, 2007. She and her brother and sister were 11 weeks old, and it was one of the first beautiful spring days and the first time they came outside.

Georgia's Spring Time Photo

Georgia can't wait for spring to come to Washington. Here she is from an old photo of last summer, exploring the yard in the sun. We can't wait until she can do this again! And when that happens, we should have some beautiful iris' off to that one side!

Miss Peach's ode to Spring

~~~SEASONS~~~
by Miss Peach 2005
Journey not in haste through these seasons of your life.....
Lest you overlook the beauty of God's love.....
As the buttery daffodils spring into dance,
While waves beach upon your summery sands.....
During your changing autumn fashion shows,
Cloaking your cottage in a quiet winter's tale of snow.
~~~Blessings & Purrs~~~

Spring Has Sprung!

OK obviously, not yet. But I'm dying for the longer days and warmth and I'm betting you are too! So here at Simply Siamese we're looking for a way to celebrate regrowth and help our friends at the same time. Soooo....you all know Sammy & Miles right? Well they still need help and while we've all been helping with project HAM and the other great contests that have contributed, we wanted to do something special for our very devoted friends.

Here's what's going to happen. For every entry my Meowmy is going to donate $1 to project HAM. This contest is for ALL cats, not just meezers so please tell your friends to join us. Should any cat want to sponsor a category, please let us know and we'd be thrilled with that (like best tuxie, best meezer, etc.)

Prizes: 1st Place- A Millie Bed & $15 donation to project HAM

2nd Place- A Purr Pad and a $10 donation to project HAM

3rd Place- Prize pack of treats from Siamese Rescue and $5 donation to project HAM

(remember that all entries earn $1 toward project HAM!)

(OK, I told Meowmy that she has to find a way to ship overseas no matter what or else I'm pooping on her pillow and she said OK!)

So, what do you do? Do what you do best, create something (no, not in the litterbox sort of way)! We thought long and hard about this and decided that there are two elements that bind us all together- words and cat photography. We don't want to put any cat in a "box" so we're going to keep the parameters loose but we are going to require three main things.

1. You must have a written element (a couple of lines, a poem, short story, etc.). The words must be your own (with your human's translation help of course). Its OK to use inspiration from other sources (ie human poets) but please make the words flow from your own mouth :) and site any sources of inspiration.

2. You must have a photographic element. The photograph be just that- simple and focused on cats and Spring. While we all love Photoshopped pictures this contest is about freshness and simplicity so please just post pictures that are simple and with minimal Photoshop help. Even if its just a picture of you in a sunspot, that's perfect!

3. Your content must focus on cats (of course) AND Spring (flowers, sun spots, stroller rides, bunnies, birdies, kittens, etc). Whatever you think of when you think of Spring. You can use the photo and written elements to express both or use the photo for cats and the words for Spring or however you want. Just make sure your complete entry focuses on both.

Entries are open NOW until 11:59 PM (EST) March 3, 2008. At that time we will open up voting to the general public until March, 8th 2008 11:59 PM. From the top viewers choices we will choose our winners from a panel of human judges. The winners will be announced on March 9th (daylight savings time beings)!

Contest is open to all blogging cats & buns & woofies! Please provide a link to your blog at the end of your entry and label the post like this: Latte's ode to Spring

Any questions? E-mail me SIMPLYSIAMESEatGMAILdotCOM

And its my contest, so I retain the right to change things should I see fit.
